We Have Babies on the Lake!

We have been watching the loons nesting on Lake Iroquois and about a week ago the word went out that the babies hatched.  They have already been spotted swimming around the lake.  You may spot them swimming with one or both parents and occasionally taking a ride on a parent’s back.   This is the second summer that loons have successfully nested and hatched two chicks on Lake Iroquois.  Please, please be very careful when out boating on the lake.  The chicks can be hard to spot and loons are easily spooked.  Please keep your distance and definitely don’t chase the loons.  If they are swimming away from you, don’t follow, it means they are stressed.  Enjoy watching our loon family  from a safe distance.  More information about loons and the Vermont Loon Conservation Project can be found at: https://vtecostudies.org/wildlife/birds/water-birds/common-loon/
